Atal tunnel is Indian engineering marvel, connecting Manali to Lahaul-Spiti valley, at altitude of above 10,000fts, length of 9.02km, beneath the Rohtang pass, South Portal at Dhundi to North Portal near Sissu. Great picturesque location at South Portal. It is a world’s longest single tube Tunnel above 10k fts level. It provides all weather connectivity.

Atal Tunnel is truly one of the engineering marvels of India and a must-visit destination in Himachal Pradesh. Driving through the tunnel is an unforgettable experience, and the breathtaking mountain views on both sides make the journey even more special. Once you reach the North Portal, you’ll be welcomed by stunning snow-capped peaks, fresh mountain air, and plenty of scenic spots for photography. Don’t miss capturing some memorable pictures at both the South Portal and the North Portal—each offers its own unique beauty. There are also several food stalls and cafés near the North Portal, where you can enjoy delicious local snacks, Maggi, tea, coffee, and other refreshments while soaking in the incredible views. A small request to all visitors: Please do not stop or park your vehicle inside the tunnel. It is unsafe, illegal, and can disrupt traffic. Enjoy the drive through the tunnel and stop only at the designated areas outside to admire the surroundings and click photos. Overall, Atal Tunnel is more than just a road—it’s an experience that combines world-class engineering with the unmatched beauty of the Himalayas. If you’re visiting Manali, this place deserves a spot at the top of your itinerary. Highly recommended!

Driving through the Atal Tunnel is surreal. In less than 15 minutes, you travel from the green, cedar-clad slopes of Manali’s South Portal directly into the rugged, snow-dusted, cold-desert landscape of Lahaul at the North Portal. The engineering is top-tier—well-lit lanes, strong ventilation, clear signage, and continuous speed monitoring. YouTube/Traveller KP

Amazing experience at Atal Tunnel. This engineering marvel is about 9 km long and makes travel much faster and easier. The tunnel is clean, well maintained, and the drive through it is very smooth. The surrounding mountain views are breathtaking. A must-visit place near Manali.
