A very nice museum on the waterside in central Amsterdam. Lots of varied exhibitions that were interesting and thought provoking. The boats in the harbour were really interesting to visit and gave a good sense of life on board. It was great fun to try out the hammocks and bunks. Inevitably you need to be careful not to bump your head as there are lots of low beams. A nice cafe and small gift shop allows you to break up your visit. Staff were all helpful and courteous. There are (quite complicated but free) lockers available for storing your luggage. Toilets are downstairs and a bit complicated to use but perfectly clean and usable.

Ababsolutely beautiful museum that is low stimulation for those with infants. We spent 5hrs there and it still didn't feel like enough time to see everything. If you like to read everything, you need a whole day here to fully absorb all the history and the evolution of the Dutch's map making skills. The art on display is absolutely immaculate. The age of these tapestries and paintings are in superb condition for their age.

I visited the National Maritime Museum and honestly, I really liked it. The building itself is already impressive before you even get into the exhibits. The huge glass-covered courtyard gives the whole place a modern, open feel while still keeping that historic atmosphere. One of the highlights for me was the full-scale replica of a ship docked outside. Walking on board makes everything feel much more real - you can actually imagine what life at sea was like back then. It’s easily the most memorable part of the visit. Overall, it’s a great spot if you want something cultural but still enjoyable and easy to get into. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Amsterdam.

Had a lovely time touring the VOC ship, the Royal Barge and the Maritime Museum. Lovely courtyard to rest and have a bite to eat with a very unique roof. Well worth the visit. Also between this Museum and Nemo Science Museum there are static displays of ships and equipment you can view for free.

Such a fun yet educational experience about the history of ships and what life was like on board. It is split into four sections; North South East West and all showcase different parts. The best was of course the huge ship model outside where you could experience what life was like on a ship. It is well looked after, friendly staff and definitely worth 20€ entrance fee ( free with a museum card ). Do recommend!
