- Architectural Wonder of The Grand Mosque
Day 1 : Architectural Wonder of The Grand Mosque
First day of our trip also included a stop at the Grand Mosque, locally known as The Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi. This was built between 1994 and 2007 and the building complex covers an area of more than 30 acres, excluding the exterior landscaping and vehicle parking. The main axis of the building is rotated about 12° south of true west, aligning it in the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca, Saudi Arabia and is truly a man made wonder. The vision was to unite the cultural diversity of the Islamic world with the historical and modern values of architecture and art. In 2004, Sheikh Zayed died and was buried in the courtyard of the mosque. There is also a library, located in the northeast minaret to serve the community with classic books and publications addressing a range of Islamic subjects: sciences, civilization, calligraphy, the arts, and coins, including some rare publications. The final outcome is a beautiful fusion of Persian, Mughal, and Indo-Islamic architecture.. Natural materials were chosen for much of its design and construction due to their long-lasting qualities, including marble stone, gold, semi-precious stones, crystals and ceramics. Artisans and materials came from many countries including India, Italy, Germany, Egypt, Turkey, Morocco, Pakistan, Malaysia, Iran, China, United Kingdom, New Zealand, North Macedonia and the UAE.It was amazing to spend time and see how much architecture can bring society together. The mosque can hold about 40,000 worshippers and the highlight for us was the four minarets on the four corners of the courtyard, with its floral design, considered to be the largest example of marble mosaic in the world. We took a moment to appreciate the silence and mystery of such beauty reflected in the many water bodies that reflect light and make The Grand Mosque truly grand and a must visit attraction in Abu Dhabi.
Day 2 : Chasing the fast cars at Ferrari World, Abu Dhabi
As mentioned before, everyone in our group loves fast cars. So, it was only a matter of time before we were going to Ferrari World. It is the world's largest indoor theme park. One of the highlights is the world's fastest starting roller coaster, the Formula Rossa. Within 4 seconds you reach a speed of no less than 240 kilometres / hour. Also, the Flying Ace has a world record to its name. It is the steepest rollercoaster in the world. But if you think this was all the adrenaline we were going to get today, you were wrong.
