Delhi Full Day Sightseeing Tour
It was my Dad's birthday in November and we had planned a surprise trip to the Golden Triangle for him because the weather was very pleasant during that winter with lots of things to do and with the weather cool enough to walk around.
We live in Chennai and my brother had come down from Bangalore a week before to help with the arrangements. We took an overnight train from Chennai to Delhi. We reached Delhi in the morning and went straight to our hotel in Karol Bagh as the weather was a little foggy. After taking a rest for a few hours we straight went for a Delhi-guided tour of the historic Red Fort and Raj Ghat.
Next on our itinerary was the Full Day Sightseeing Tour of Delhi. We visited the Chandni chowk first and had the best shopping tour in the oldest market of Delhi. We then went to get some lunch and ended up at an old restaurant that he used to go to with his friends. The food was fantastic and we all ate like there was no tomorrow.
After finishing our lunch we went straight to see other historic places like India Gate, and Rashtrapati Bhavan. It was an amazing sight to see these places. Although you are not allowed to go inside Rashtrapati Bhavan, without any doubt there is no place like this in the world. It is massive and the famous Mughal Gardens should be on your list if you are lucky enough to find it open.
After that, we went to see the Swaminarayan Akshardham Hindu Temple, which is so beautiful and we enjoyed the unique light and sound show there in the evening.
After finishing the tour, it was time for real fun. We went back to the hotel and got ready for our surprise birthday dinner. We had asked the chef for all the local specialities and it was a never ending meal that we really enjoyed as we laughed and joked long into the night. It was a birthday my Dad would never forget and we all had the time of our lives. We didn’t have the time but will come back to see the Jantar Mantar, an incredible astronomical observatory built in the 18th century.
Jantar Mantar is located in the modern city of New Delhi. “Jantar Mantar” literally means “instruments for measuring the harmony of the heavens”. It consists of 13 architectural astronomy instruments.
