Travelling with my Toddler to Singapore

It was my first time bringing my 4-year-old son overseas. Singapore was a country that came to my mind because of its safety, the delicious food in Singapore, and the diverse activities catered to people of all ages. The trip from the airport to Sentosa Island was a very enjoyable one. We passed by the gorgeous Gardens by the Bay and took in the beautiful views.

Highlights

  • Check into paradise with Skyline Luge and Wings of Time Show

  • Zipping Fun at the Mega Adventure Park

  • Time to Theme Park at the Universal Studios Singapore

Day 1

Check into paradise with Skyline Luge and Wings of Time Show

After checking into our hotel, we headed to our first stop, the Skyline Luge Sentosa located at the Beach Station by Monorail. The activity is suitable for all ages, though age and height restrictions apply to riding alone. It starts with the Skyride, a 4-seater chairlift that offers a bird’s eye view of the Singapore Skyline and the South China Sea. We arrived at the top of Mount Imbiah to take the luge ride. Unfortunately, or fortunately for me, my son could not take the ride alone and we shared a cart which reassured me of his safety. It was our first time riding the luge, but the friendly staff taught us how to steer and we were on our way! There were four tracks to choose from, the Kuppu Kuppu Trail, Expedition Trail, Jungle Trail, and Dragon Trail. We enjoyed the Expedition Trail which allowed us to twist and turn through the mystical forest.

Because the day was hot, we headed back to the hotel to rest before heading out during the cool evening to catch the Wings of Time Show at Siloso Beach. I would say that this is a staple for every family-friendly day out in Sentosa. The show is projected on a water screen, the show features a short adventure story complete with fireworks, giant water jets, and 3D projection mapping. My son loved it so much that I decided to take him for another show on our last day.

Day 2

Zipping fun at the Mega Adventure Park

We set out bright and early the next day to The Mega Adventure Park. There are four types of adventures to choose from, Mega Bounce, Mega Climb, Mega Jump, and Mega Zip. Because of my son’s age, we did two of the four activities. The Mega Bounce and Mega Zip. My son had the time of his life testing his acrobatics skill on the Mega Bounce, a bungee-assisted trampoline that allows him to bounce up to 8m high. The next activity is the Mega Zip, which is personally my favourite activity of this whole trip. The exhilarating mega zip is a 450m long zip line that lets you zip through the air at speeds of 60kph. Because my son was not taller than 90cm and heavier than 30kg, we rode the zipline together. We had an early dinner at Trapizza, a nearby restaurant overlooking the beach. You won’t regret ordering the assorted pizza that lets you get the best of all the worlds, allowing you to choose 4 types of flavours in one pizza.

Day 3

Time to Theme Park at the Universal Studios Singapore

Here is the best cheat code I heard: If your toddler is under the age of four years old, his ticket is free! The magic height requirement for most of the rides is 92cm. There are quite a few rides that are toddler friendly. The first is King Julien’s Party-Go-Round. A carousel with tall giraffes that have crooked necks, zany zebras, and King Julien. For the very young, there are chariots with benches available on the merry-go-round. The ride still must be accompanied by a parent. The next ride is the Canopy Flyer in The Lost World Zone. The ride lets you ride high up in the sky, zooming over Jurassic Park on the backs of flying dinosaurs, and enjoy the aerial views and cool breeze. Grab a meal at the Goldilocks restaurant, with deliciously homemade seven-spice fried chicken. My son was very attracted to the ‘Far Far Away Castle’s Secret Potion’ that came in the shape of a potion bottle. Lastly, you cannot miss the Shrek 4-D Adventure at Far Far Away, a 3-D animated show featuring Shrek, bouncing seats, air blasts, and water sprays that will make your experience come alive.
