I recently visited Sri Lanka and went through Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport, and overall, it was a smooth experience. I spent more time here, so I can say the airport is medium-sized..not too big, not too small. The check-in and customs clearance process was surprisingly quick and efficient. The airport was very clean, including the washrooms, which I really appreciated. The duty-free area at departures had a nice variety of stores- from gemstone shops to telecom counters, souvenir stores, and even Domino’s and Costa Coffee ☕️. Overall, both our arrival and departure experiences were pleasant and hassle-free. The staff were polite and helpful throughout. Keep up the good work, Sri Lanka! 🇱🇰 Insta: Farhan.Butt77

Having spent over half of my life living abroad, arriving in Sri Lanka through Bandaranaike International Airport has always been a special occasion for me. There is a unique feeling that comes with stepping off the plane and knowing that you are finally home, and for the vast majority of my visits, the experience at the airport has been a positive one. The airport is generally well-organized, and the staff are often courteous and welcoming. From immigration to baggage collection, the process is usually smooth and efficient. Over the years, I have appreciated the improvements made to the facilities, as well as the variety of duty-free shopping and dining options available to travelers. For many Sri Lankans living overseas, Bandaranaike International Airport is more than just an airport—it is the gateway home. The familiar sights, sounds, and warm hospitality make every arrival memorable. While no airport is perfect, my experiences here have been overwhelmingly positive, and it continues to provide a fitting welcome back to Sri Lanka.

I recently traveled through Bandaranaike International Airport and had a very pleasant experience overall. As the main international gateway to Sri Lanka, the airport is well-organized and provides all the essential services travelers need. The check-in and immigration processes were smooth, and the staff were friendly, helpful, and professional. The airport is easy to navigate, with clear signage guiding passengers through each step. There are plenty of useful facilities including duty-free shopping, restaurants, currency exchange, ATMs, and comfortable waiting areas. Transport options such as taxis and ride-hailing services are easily accessible, making arrivals and departures convenient. The atmosphere is welcoming, and the airport gives a good first impression of Sri Lanka. Overall, it offers a reliable and comfortable travel experience, and I would be happy to use it again.

The departure terminal experience was smooth and well organized. I recommend arriving at least 3 hours before departure so you can check in without rushing, as boarding begins about 1 hour before the flight. There are support staff available to assist passengers, and some wear vests clearly stating “Free Help.” However, after assisting us, one staff member asked for financial support, which was unexpected. While waiting to board, you can spend time exploring the duty-free stores and other retail shops in the terminal. One issue I encountered was being asked to check in my hand luggage. Initially, I thought it was because my cabin bag weighed around 11 kg. I explained that the combined baggage allowance for my family of five was still within the permitted limit, as the other four bags were well below the 7.5 kg cabin allowance. The staff clarified that the request was not due to weight, but because the aircraft was a smaller Airbus with limited overhead storage space. Since my bag contained my laptop and other valuables, I requested to keep it with me and instead checked in my mother’s hand luggage, which they accepted. Other than this minor inconvenience, everything else went smoothly, and I had a pleasant experience overall.

Bandaranaike International Airport offers a smooth and well-organized transfer experience for transit passengers. The airport has clear signboards, helpful staff, and convenient transfer procedures that make connecting flights relatively hassle-free. Security and immigration processes are generally efficient, and the waiting areas are comfortable enough for short layovers. Overall, it is a decent transit hub in South Asia with improving facilities and a traveler-friendly atmosphere.
