Can’t Pick Between Dubai’s House of Hype and Abu Dhabi’s teamLab Phenomena? Read This First!
TL;DR
- Into gaming, fashion, and flashy lights? Head to House of Hype Dubai.
- Prefer calming, artsy, soulful experiences? You’ll love teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi.
- Still unsure? Honestly, do both. They’re total opposites, and that’s the beauty of it.

Right, let me admit something: when I first started planning my UAE itinerary, I thought I would spend most of my time outdoors. Desert safaris, rooftop brunches, beach clubs, all that good stuff.
Indoor attractions? Meh, I figured I’d skip them.
That was before I stumbled upon two names that kept popping up in every local guide, every Instagram story, and every TikTok “Things to Do in UAE” list – House of Hype in Dubai and teamLab Phenomena in Abu Dhabi.
I started digging into it... and the more I read, the more curious I got. So, I decided to experience both for myself. And let me tell you – they were the perfect cool escape from the UAE summer, and honestly, two of the most unforgettable parts of my trip.
Let me walk you through a clear, honest glimpse of what I discovered through both research and personal experience, so you don’t have to stay confused like I was, and you can figure out which one suits you best (or like me, decide they’re both must-dos!).
House of Hype (The Wild, Flashy, Futuristic World Inside Dubai Mall)

When I walked into House of Hype, I genuinely felt like I had stepped into the future. It’s inside Dubai Mall, right near the Ice Rink, and the whole place is buzzing with colour, sound and energy. It is like an interactive playground for grown-ups (and teens), filled with everything from digital fashion to virtual football.
Location: Dubai Mall, Ground Floor (near the Ice Rink)
Open Daily: 10 AM to Midnight
What is it like inside?

There are over 10 themed zones here and each one is like its own little world. You can try virtual sports, walk through a glowing tunnel where your clothes change (digitally!), or become your own digital avatar. It’s a mash-up of tech, fashion, gaming, and art.
The music’s pumping, the lights are wild, and every corner is photo-worthy. If you love fast-paced, futuristic experiences, this place is a blast.
Top 3 zones I loved:

1. Avatar Zone
You step into a scanner, and suddenly you’re on screen as a digital version of yourself – moving, posing, dancing. It was hilarious and surprisingly creative. Great for videos or just a laugh.
2. Hypeverse Arena
It felt like I was in a nightclub, meets a game zone. There’s laser tag, digital football, and LED-lit everything. It’s loud, lively, and perfect if you’re going with friends or teenagers.
3. Interactive Fashion Tunnel
Honestly, this was one of my favourites. As you walk down the tunnel, screens on both sides show you wearing different outfits in real time. It’s powered by AI and feels like you’re walking a virtual runway.
Best For: Teens, Gen Z, fashion lovers, gamers, influencers
Pro Tip: Go during golden hour (just before sunset), and you will catch the best lighting for your photos inside.
teamLab Phenomena (A magical, quiet world in Abu Dhabi)

This one was a complete 180 from House of Hype and just as magical.Located on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi’s cultural district, teamLab Phenomena is peaceful, dreamy, and deeply artistic. When I entered, I whispered without thinking because the space feels sacred.
Location: Saadiyat Cultural District, Abu Dhabi
Open Daily: 10 AM-8 PM
Tickets: AED 125 (with The Official Abu Dhabi Pass)
What is it like inside?

It’s hard to describe because it’s not a normal museum. You don’t just look at art, you actually become part of it. The light moves with you. The sound changes based on where you stand. Walls bloom when you walk past. Every visit is different because the art reacts to the environment as well as you.
There are no “don’t touch” signs. You’re meant to interact with the space.
My three favourite experiences

1. Resonating Microcosms
You walk into a dark room full of glowing orbs that light up and hum when you get near. It felt like walking through stars, and I honestly didn’t want to leave.
2. Sketch Ocean
This one is so fun! You get a sheet, draw a fish or sea creature, scan it and within seconds, it is swimming on the massive digital wall. I saw a dad and daughter drawing jellyfish together; their giggles were everything.
3. Transformative Nature
This room was alive. The artwork shifted with the light and even the humidity. I stood still for a moment and felt like the whole space was breathing with me. It was so calming and beautiful.
Best For: Couples, creatives, families with small kids, slow travellers
Pro Tip: Go on a weekday afternoon when it is quieter and gives you space to really experience everything.
