Essential Emergency Numbers

Timing is everything during DSF
Keep your itinerary well-organized.; you might miss some things if you don’t keep a check.
- In the UAE, weekends are now Saturday and Sunday, with Fridays becoming quieter to honour the afternoon prayer.
- Dubai's winter weather is delightful, but nights can get nippy, so bring a snazzy light jacket.
- Start your day early with various outdoor and family-friendly activities. Parks and open spaces often host entertainment shows and funfairs from around 10:00 AM onwards.
- Treat yourself to the city's best brunches and cafe scenes, generally bustling from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
- Participate in creative workshops and exhibitions, which usually kick off around 2:00 PM and run throughout the afternoon.
- As the sun sets, the city lights up with live music, cultural performances, and street shows, usually starting around 6:00 PM and continuing into the night.
- DSF is only complete with fireworks and light show displays, which typically occur from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
- Some night markets and bazaars stay open past midnight.
Social Etiquettes to follow
Polite behaviour can open many doors for you in Dubai.
- Avoid public displays of affection. Respect the government and religion.
- Physical interaction between men and women is more conservative. Male visitors are advised not to initiate a handshake with an Emirati woman unless she offers it. The same goes for women.
- Dubai is one of the most prominent destinations for honeymooners, but kissing in public is a big no-no.
- Since Sharia Law is observed in UAE, it is strongly recommended that unmarried couples book different accommodations.
- When it comes to dressing up, it’s best to blend in. Dress modestly. Cover your shoulders and knees at religious places or local neighbourhoods. Feel free to wear a cocktail dress to a bar or fine-dining restaurant, but avoid them while visiting mosques, museums, malls, or the metro.
- Bargain your way through the souks. Approach it with a smile and a sense of fun – you might just walk away with a fantastic deal and a great story.
- Drinking is legal in Dubai, but you might need to show your ID to prove you're at least 21. Some bars may even check if you're 25 or older. Refrain from drinking alcohol in public, or drinking and driving, unless you want to end up in prison.
- Don’t even think of letting your anger out publicly; it might call for police intervention.
- Eating in public places, especially public transportation in Dubai, is considered rude.
