Delhi Temple Tour
All of us girls have been fascinated by the rich culture of India. We had a classmate from India whose mother used to put a red mark, teeka, on her forehead on days of exams for good luck. I remember befriending her just because her teeka was a thing of interest to me. Little did I know that I would be falling in love with the culture of India from the stories she told me. The temples of India were something I always wanted to see.
On reaching Delhi, we felt a little uncomfortable due to the dry and hot weather but as soon as we devoured a glass of buttermilk at the hotel, we felt at ease. If you visit India for the first time, make sure to keep yourself hydrated.
That very day, we went on a Delhi temple tour and took a taxi to the Lotus Temple. What’s unique about this temple, besides its lotus-like shape, is that there are no idols in the temple. We got to know from a local tourist that it is the only Bahai House of Worship in the whole of Asia.
After the Lotus Temple, we visited the India Gate and the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The most auspicious experience for me on this tour was visiting the Bangla Sahib. It was absolutely heartwarming to see people who are so different from each other sitting side by side and having langar, that is free meals for all throughout the year and all round the clock. Though I am not a fan of vegetarian food, each bite of langar was like an outburst of emotions.
